Dr. Laure Burke

Dr. Burke graduated with a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from the University of Southern California. She is currently the Department Chair for the Business, Legal & Technology Education Department and Professor at Kapi'olani Community College teaching courses online and face-to-face. She has taught a range of courses including Management, Marketing, Career/Customer Service, Hospitality and Tourism, Meetings/Convention Management, Internship, and Personal and Public Speech. Beyond Kapi'olani Community College, she has taught at the University of Hawaii (Organizational Communication), Chaminade University (Communication), Windward Community College (Speech), Honolulu Community College (Cooperative Education) and Moanalua High School (English).

Prior to Kapi'olani Community College, her experience includes positions with Hilton International, GTE Travel Enterprises, and the Hawaii Visitors and Convention Bureau. In addition to her teaching and leadership experiences within the University of Hawaii System, she has held positions at Fortune 500 companies such as Johnson and Johnson, SmithKline Beecham, and Bristol-Myers Squibb.

Dr. Burke has been awarded the American Hotel and Lodging Educational Institute's Certified Hospitality Educator and Hotel Industry Analytics designation. She previously served as Chair of the Pacific Asia Travel Association's Hawaii Chapter Executive Board.

At Kapi'olani Community College, Dr. Burke served as an Assessment Coordinator which involved leading and supporting best practices among faculty members as they assess student learning in their courses. Additionally, she led the Honors Education Program as its Coordinator helping to develop student leaders from both Liberal Arts and Career and Technical Education Programs.

Supporting the college, she has served on multiple committees and initiatives including department/college accreditation, distance education, curriculum, strategic planning, and budget.

Selected to represent the campus, she has also collaborated with colleagues from throughout the University of Hawaii System as a Wo Learning Champion, a Wo Global Learning Champion, and a President's Emerging Leader.

In her own classroom, Dr. Burke employs a strengths based teaching philosophy encouraging students to use their strengths and talents to reach professional goals.
